Auckland vs Canterbury – 20/20 tournament in Christchurch November 5th to 6th 2011
Canterbury organized the first ever 20/20 cricket tournament which was held in Christchurch. There were only two teams that participated in the tournament as Central pulled out. The weekend was great and everyone enjoyed the tournament, with Canterbury winning the 20/20 shield (2 – 1). There were three 20/20 games played over the weekend with two on Saturday and one on Sunday. The weather was a bit chilly in the morning but as lunch approached, the weather was just perfect for playing cricket and most of the players got sun burnt! The field and clubroom was fantastic, and the pitch was fantastic to play on as well. The players wore brand new coloured uniforms (Red for Canterbury and Blue for Auckland) and played with four pieced white ball.
Stefan Hall was named player of the tournament with brilliant batting of 124 runs in two innings and he wasn’t out in both innings, he also took three wickets. Toby Agnew, Stefan Hall and Keethsesan Sundaralingam were named player of the matches.
An AGM was held on Friday 4th November with new delegates and executive members elected. They will be announced shortly.
Many thanks to Brent Burcher and Patrick Stokell for organising this fantastic tournament, and many thanks to the sponsors who made this tournament happen. They are Pelorus Trust/Bendigo Valley for Accommodation, Lion Foundation for Uniforms and Four Winds for the Airfares.
