Australian Deaf Games – 2012

adgHello, here is a brief announcement for the Australian Deaf Games (ADG) for the New Zealanders who are going to Australia in 2012. The Australian Deaf Games are taking place at Geelong, Melbourne from 14th – 22nd January 2012.

New Zealand athletes are participating in Darts, 8 Ball Pool, Lawn Bowls, Squash and Table Tennis. All these sports have been confirmed. Other sports which were considered for New Zealand such as Netball, Cricket and 7 a-side Touch Rugby are off/not confirmed.

Seventeen people from New Zealand are going, with twelve participating in the sports mentioned above as well as two representatives from Deaf Sports Federation of New Zealand and supporters.

The New Zealand team will be arriving on the 13th January 2012, with the Opening Ceremony being held on 14th January. In that ceremony there will be special introductions such as hakas, etc. On the 22nd will be the closing ceremony, then on the 23rd most Nealanders will go home. When the registration closed on the 1st December there where approximately 850 sportspeople registered to participate at the ADG. Now the ADG committee are focusing on the programme book, programme and as Christmas is around the corner, time is running out. The New Zealand team will stay at a place in Geelong, Melbourne with transport available such as the bus or train.
